CAIMS/PIMS Early Career Award

About this program

Offered jointly by the Canadian Applied and Industrial Mathematics Society (CAIMS) and the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS), the CAIMS/PIMS Early Career Award recognizes exceptional research in any branch of applied mathematics and includes a $1,000 cash prize, commemorative plaque, invitation to deliver a plenary lecture at the CAIMS Annual Meeting, and a travel allowance. Eligibility is limited to researchers within ten years of their PhD (for the 2026 award, PhD awarded in 2016 or later), with extensions for leaves of absence or illness, and nominees should demonstrate a strong relationship to Canada (e.g., CAIMS membership, employment at a Canadian institution, or research conducted primarily in Canada). Nominations must include a cover letter, CV (and publication list if not in the CV), up to three letters of support (at least two from referees who are neither former PhD/postdoc mentors nor collaborators), and a brief statement of the nominee’s connection to Canada; unsuccessful but still-eligible nominees may be renominated in subsequent years.
