California Forest Improvement Program

About this program

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection offers the California Forest Improvement Program (CFIP) to support sustainable management and improvement of California forest lands, including reforestation, stand improvement, forest management planning, and fish and wildlife habitat and soil and water quality enhancements. Cost-share assistance is available on an ongoing basis, with projects selected approximately every three months and reimbursement covering 80%–90% of eligible costs. Eligible applicants include private and public landowners, businesses, nonprofits, and other legal entities owning 20–5,000 acres of California forestland; the 20-acre minimum does not apply to timber production zone land. Applicants must provide a 10%–20% match, and prescribed or controlled burning is not eligible for CFIP cost share.
