This hub differs in kind from the other discipline pages, and the difference is worth understanding before you read the list. A large share of environmental and conservation funding comes from state agencies and regional trusts rather than foundations or societies, and those bodies publish programs worth millions with geographic eligibility rules attached.
The World Wildlife Fund runs the largest block. Behind it sit the State Water Resources Control Board, the Wildlife Conservation Board, the Chesapeake Bay Trust, state departments of fish and wildlife, and several regional conservancies. If you are outside their service areas, most of that money is unavailable regardless of the science, and the program page names the geography.

The median award is $20,000 but the mean is far higher because of those state programs. General program grants outnumber research projects by more than two to one, and a majority of the listings name no academic stage at all, because they are aimed at organizations rather than individuals.
