Can-Am Civil Engineering Amity Award

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) administers the Can-Am Civil Engineering Amity Award, established by James A. Vance to recognize civil engineers who have made outstanding contributions to advancing professional relations between U.S. and Canadian engineers; recipients receive a medal and an honorarium (amount set annually) and the award is typically presented at an ASCE meeting or a CSCE national convention. Selection is made by the ASCE Cold Regions Engineering Division Awards Committee and approved by the ASCE Executive Committee, with typically one award presented each year (group accomplishments designate a lead recipient for the medal and cash prize). Eligible candidates must be in good standing at nomination time; each ASCE Section or Branch may submit one nominee annually and the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) is invited to nominate. Nominations are due November 1 and must include a nominator-signed cover letter, the nominee's CV/biographical information, and two or three letters of recommendation submitted via the ASCE nomination form.
