Cannabis Research and Innovation Funding Opportunity (RIFO)

About this program

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife offers Research and Innovation Funding through the Cannabis Restoration Grant Program to support environmental research and technological innovation addressing the impacts of legal cannabis cultivation. Projects may focus on water use, land management, native species, community engagement, or other approaches that promote sustainable cultivation and conserve California’s fish, wildlife, and habitats, with priority given to benefits for Species of Greatest Conservation Need and Sensitive Natural Communities. Eligible applicants include California public agencies, qualified 501(c) nonprofit organizations, and California Native American tribes; projects may occur statewide on state or federal lands. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis for projects lasting up to three years, and matching funds are not required.
