CAPES-Humboldt Research Fellowship (Postdoctoral and Experienced Researchers from Brazil)

About this program

CAPES and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation jointly fund the CAPES‑Humboldt Research Fellowship to enable Brazilian postdoctoral and experienced researchers to conduct research stays at German institutions, offering monthly stipends (€3,000 for postdocs, €3,600 for experienced researchers) plus family/travel allowances, host research subsidies and pre‑fellowship language support. Fellowships run 6–24 months for postdocs and 6–18 months for experienced researchers (each may be split into up to three stays within three years), with selection based on individual academic qualifications, the host’s statement and independent peer review. Applicants must be Brazilian nationals or residents with a doctorate obtained within the last 4 years (postdoc) or 12 years (experienced), demonstrate an above‑average publication record, and have a confirmed host in Germany; previous Humboldt sponsorship makes one ineligible. Applications are submitted online to both the Humboldt Foundation and CAPES (host uploads the host statement), with biannual calls and deadlines at 17:00 Brasília time on the last working day in May and November.
