Carl S. Marvel Award for Creative Polymer Chemistry

About this program

The POLY Division of the American Chemical Society awards the Carl S. Marvel Award for Creative Polymer Chemistry biennially to recognize unusually meritorious accomplishments or innovation in basic or applied polymer science by younger scientists; the prize (presented at the national ACS meeting in odd-numbered years) includes a plaque, a $1,500 honorarium, and up to $2,000 travel support, and the recipient is expected to present at a symposium organized in their honor. Eligible nominees must be members or affiliates of the POLY division, have produced outstanding work in basic or applied polymer science, and be under 45 years of age on January 1 of the award year. Nominators must also be POLY members or affiliates, and nomination packages—submitted as a single PDF to carleel@vt.edu by July 1 of even-numbered years—should include a completed application form, one nomination letter (≤2 pages), the nominee’s CV (≤2 pages, tailored to the award), and a complete list of relevant scholarly works. The award is granted without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, disability, or sexual orientation.
