Civil Engineering History & Heritage Award

About this program

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) administers the Civil Engineering History & Heritage Award, established in 1966 to recognize individuals whose writing, research, or other work has advanced knowledge of or appreciation for the history and heritage of civil engineering; the award includes a plaque and an honorarium determined annually by ASCE’s Executive Committee. Nominations are open to any person or organization (ASCE membership not required), may result in one recipient annually (up to two in exceptional cases), and a person may not receive the award more than once; posthumous awards are only considered if the nomination was submitted before the nominee’s death. Nominations—encouraged to be submitted through the local Section Committee on History & Heritage—must include a signed cover letter, the nominee’s CV or biographical information, and two or three letters of recommendation, and must be received by November 1 for consideration.
