About this program

The Austrian Science Fund (FWF) supports non-commercial clinical research projects that generate new scientific knowledge to improve clinical practice or optimize diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, providing project-specific personnel and non-personnel funding for up to 48 months. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis via the elane portal, undergo international peer review with decisions by the FWF Scientific Board, and can be co-financed through the Matching Funds initiative. Eligible applicants are suitably qualified researchers working at or in cooperation with clinics in Austria who have the necessary capacity and infrastructure; projects must involve patients, animal patients, or healthy test subjects/animals and must not serve direct commercial interests. A positive opinion or confirmation of fundamental approval from the responsible ethics committee must be submitted with the application (except for clinical trials under the Austrian Medicines Act).
