COBRE Neuroscience Research Service Award Program

About this program

University of Nevada, Reno’s Institute for Neuroscience and the Center for Integrative Neuroscience (an NIH COBRE award) are offering COBRE Core service awards of up to $5,000 for neuroscience-related core services and one-year pilot project grants of up to $40,000 (direct) to develop new neuroscience research projects (pilot projects projected to start June 1, 2026). Key deadlines: pre-proposals (2 pages max) due Oct 3, 2025 with invitations to full proposals by Nov 3, 2025 and full proposals due Jan 16, 2026; pilot award notifications are planned for Mar 2, 2026; service-award applications will be reviewed beginning Oct 1, 2025 and service-award funds must be spent by Apr 30, 2026. Eligible applicants must be UNR investigators who are eligible to receive federal funding; pilot applicants must use one or more COBRE core facilities, include a project mentor, commit at least two months effort, and cannot hold current major grant funding or simultaneous IDEA (COBRE/INBRE/CTR‑IN) support. Selected pilot proposals will be invited to submit full PHS‑398 formatted applications (detailed budget and research strategy) and awards are contingent on NIH approval.
