About this program

The Botanical Society of America designates Corresponding Members—an honorary lifetime membership recognizing distinguished plant scientists who live and work outside the United States and who have made outstanding, career-long contributions to the plant sciences through research, scholarship and often education, policy, or service. Eligible nominees must demonstrate significant impact in the field and leadership or engagement in relevant scientific organizations at national or international levels. Nominations, submitted by BSA members via the online awards portal, must be a single PDF including the nominee’s curriculum vitae, a detailed statement of qualifications, at least three letters of support (one a nomination letter and at least one from a colleague in the nominee’s country), and Professional Conduct Disclosure Forms from the nominator and any letter writers. Recommendations are reviewed by the Corresponding Member Committee, forwarded to Council, and require approval by the BSA membership at the annual business meeting; nominations are closed for 2026 and will reopen in early 2027.
