CSMB New Investigator Award

About this program

The Canadian Society for Molecular Biosciences (CSMB) awards the annual New Investigator Award to recognize and support early-career scientists in molecular biosciences (biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, genetics) in Canada, with nominations evaluated using Tri-Council–aligned best practices and DORA principles and scored on research excellence (5 points) and leadership (5 points). Eligible nominees must have 4–7 years of independent research experience at the time of application (approved leaves excluded), must have lived in Canada and held an independent investigator position at a Canadian research institute for that period, and CSMB board/committee members are ineligible while in office; self-nominations are accepted. Nominations require a nominator’s letter summarizing originality, significance and leadership plus the nominee’s CV (nominators should be of higher rank when proposing multiple nominees and must rank candidates as required) and must be submitted via the CSMB award nomination form with letters addressed to Dr. Tarik Möröy. The awardee will deliver a lecture at the CSMB Annual Conference and submit a manuscript or review of their related work/career path for publication in Biochemistry and Cell Biology or Genome and in the CSMB Bulletin.
