Daniel W. Mead Prize for Younger Members

About this program

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) offers the Daniel W. Mead Prize for Younger Members to recognize an outstanding paper addressing professional ethics in civil engineering; the national winner receives a plaque, an honorarium, and consideration for publication in an ASCE journal. For the 2026 competition, papers should examine how ethical infrastructure design advances public welfare and supports communities in accordance with the ASCE Code of Ethics. Applicants must be ASCE Younger Members in good standing who are age 35 or younger on February 1, submit a sole-authored, unpublished paper of no more than 2,000 words, and not be active voting members of the Committee on Younger Members; nominations are due February 1 and require a signed cover letter and paper.
