Early Career Investigator Awards (K12)

Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (Indiana CTSI) offers K12 Early Career Investigator Awards to support mentored, multidisciplinary training for clinician‑scientists and translational PhD investigators (MDs, PhDs and other clinical doctorates) to develop independent clinical‑translational research careers. The program provides a two‑year award beginning each July (application window September–January) with partial salary support, pilot research funds, and travel funds; second‑year funding is contingent on satisfactory progress. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents with a full‑time early‑career faculty appointment at an Indiana CTSI‑affiliated institution, eligible to serve as PI on NIH grants but not previously PI on an R01 or equivalent. Candidates must identify two mentors from different disciplines (the primary mentor appointed at an Indiana CTSI institution) and intend to submit an external career development award or independent research grant during the award period.
