East and Inner Asia Council Small Grants

About this program

The Association for Asian Studies’ East and Inner Asia Council (EIAC), with support from the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation and member donations, offers grants of up to $2,000 for research or translation travel, small conferences and seminars, and field newsletters or websites focused on China, Taiwan, or Inner Asia. Funding is provided through reimbursement for eligible travel expenses and must support projects conducted within the stated grant period. Applicants must be current AAS members; dissertation-level graduate students, junior and independent scholars, adjunct faculty, librarians, and language pedagogues are especially encouraged, although scholars at all levels may apply regardless of citizenship. Applicants may submit one proposal, must not have received an EIAC grant within the previous three years, and must provide a project statement, budget, CV, and—if applicable—an advisor recommendation and required IRB approval; the next application cycle opens December 1, 2026, with applications due February 1, 2027.
