Edwin H. Land Medal

About this program

Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) and Optica jointly present the Edwin H. Land Medal to honor pioneering scientific research in optics and imaging that leads to inventions, technologies, and products, with the award comprising a $3,000 cash stipend and an engraved medal and presented no more than once per year. Eligible candidates may be drawn from industry, academia, or government and need not be members of IS&T or Optica. Selection is made by an eight-member subcommittee (four appointees from each organization) serving four-year terms. Applicants should demonstrate a combination of scientific curiosity, inventive impact, and contributions that translate into practical optical or imaging technologies.
