Eileen Southern Fellowship

About this program

The Society for American Music offers the annual Eileen Southern Fellowship to support archival or ethnographic research on music of the African diaspora in the Americas, providing awards up to $1,000 to cover expenses such as travel, lodging, books, and media. Applicants must be members in good standing of the Society and may be scholars at any career stage. Applications require the Society’s application form, a current full CV, a narrative (up to five double‑spaced pages) describing the project and need for funding, and a one‑page project budget; recipients must submit a final report to the Executive Director within one year of the award.
