About this program

The American Society of Primatologists (ASP) Emergency Response Small Grant provides up to $4,500 in rapid funding to support wild and captive primate populations and nearby communities facing emergencies (e.g., natural disasters, political instability) for immediate interventions such as emergency medical care, habitat protection, infrastructure repair, and basic supplies; research projects are not funded. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis while funds are available and the committee aims to respond within about two weeks, though timelines may vary. Eligible applicants include researchers, conservationists, caretakers, and local community members responsible for affected primate populations; applicants must submit name and affiliation, a brief description of the disaster and its impact, a specific needs statement with a basic budget, and evidence of the emergency (photos, news coverage, or corroboration), and previous recipients must wait one year to reapply. Applicants may need to create an ASP member profile to access the portal and can contact the ASP Emergency Response Committee for assistance or to submit applications by email if internet access is unreliable.
