Emerging Poverty Scholars Fellowships (IRP)

About this program

The Institute for Research on Poverty (IRP) offers two-year Emerging Poverty Scholars Fellowships that provide flexible funding, individualized mentoring by senior poverty scholars, quarterly cohort meetings, and opportunities to showcase research to strengthen career development for exceptional junior scholars from underrepresented populations. Funding supports a wide range of professional development activities—substantive and methodological training, travel for data collection or presentation, research assistants, teaching release, or summer salary—and fosters long-term research networks and collaborations. Applicants must be early-career/junior scholars from underrepresented groups conducting U.S.-focused poverty research, with selection based on demonstrated promise and potential to broaden the corps of U.S. poverty researchers.
