Society for Marine Mammalogy’s Eric A. Ramos Small Grants in Aid of Research (SGIAR) provides annual one‑year awards up to US$2,000 to support marine mammal field research—funding essential equipment, travel to field sites, and other direct research costs, with up to 25% of the budget allowed as stipend; conference fees, workshops, and indirect costs are ineligible. The program prioritizes projects that advance scientific understanding and conservation and offers $500 toward SMM biennial conference travel if SMM‑funded work is accepted for presentation. Applicants must be members of the Society for Marine Mammalogy and nationals conducting research in eligible countries/regions (primarily low‑ and middle‑income countries and selected high‑income countries with low R&D spending); preference is given to early‑career researchers and to those who have not previously received SGIAR funding. Applications are normally accepted in June, reviewed by the Committee of Scientific Advisors, and awards announced in September.
