Ernest W. Burgess Award

About this program

The National Council on Family Relations’ Ernest W. Burgess Award recognizes outstanding career-long scholarly achievement in family research, including contributions to theory, research methods, measurement, and the development of new areas of inquiry. The biennial award includes a $750 cash prize, plaque, presentation of the Ernest Burgess Award Address at the NCFR Annual Conference, and first-publication rights in the Journal of Marriage and Family. Nominees must demonstrate a superior, continuous research program; NCFR or Research and Theory Section membership is not required. Member nominations, including a nomination form, the nominee’s CV, and one recommendation letter addressing the review criteria, are due May 22.
