Ethel Newbold Prize

About this program

Bernoulli Society awards the biennial Ethel Newbold Prize to an outstanding early- or mid-career statistical scientist for a body of work in mathematical statistics or for research linking substantive fields to advances in statistics; the prize carries €2,500, an award certificate, and an invitation to present at the next Bernoulli-IMS World Congress, a Bernoulli-sponsored major conference, or the ISI World Statistics Congress. Eligible candidates must be nominated by others; nominations should include a letter outlining the nominee’s achievements and a recent curriculum vitae. The 2027 call is open with nominations due 30 November 2026, to be sent to Richard Nickl, and the winner will be announced in early 2027. The prize is awarded without regard to gender, but will only be awarded in a given year if the set of nominations includes candidates of both genders.
