Eunice Newton Foote Medal for Earth-Life Science

About this program

The American Geophysical Union awards the Eunice Newton Foote Medal for Earth‑Life Science annually to an exceptional senior scientist for outstanding creative research at the intersection of Earth and life sciences, recognizing major advances in understanding the Earth system, planetary habitability, or human well‑being. The honor is non‑monetary and includes an engraved medal, recognition at AGU’s annual meeting, and induction into the AGU College of Fellows if membership criteria are met. Eligible nominees are established senior researchers in relevant fields (e.g., atmospheric science, biogeosciences, geohealth, paleoceanography, planetary sciences, volcanology‑geochemistry‑petrology, hydrology, ocean sciences) who demonstrate scientific excellence, impact, and scientific citizenship; nominations may be peer‑ or self‑submitted but nominators/co‑nominators must be active AGU members. Annual nomination window is 5 January–2 March and all parties must comply with AGU ethics and conflict‑of‑interest policies; inquiries to honors@agu.org.
