Excellence in Mentoring Award

About this program

The Seismological Society of America (SSA) presents the annual Excellence in Mentoring Award to honor individual mentors in earthquake science and engineering whose sustained, demonstrable guidance has advanced SSA’s mission of “advancing earthquake science worldwide” and fostered a diverse, welcoming community. Eligible nominees are individual SSA members at any career stage (student through emeritus); organizations are not eligible, and current SSA Board members, member‑elects, or officers are excluded at the nomination deadline. Nominations—submitted by an eligible SSA member (chief nominator) by 30 September to awards@seismosoc.org—must include a two‑page nomination letter describing mentoring contributions and impact, the nominee’s CV, 2–4 support letters (≤2 pages each) with at least one from an SSA member, a signed nominator ethics disclosure, and may include supplemental evidence of impact; unsuccessful nominations may be reconsidered the following year if requested by 30 September.
