Explore the Coast Overnight

About this program

The California State Coastal Conservancy offers Explore the Coast Overnight grants to support planning, design, permitting, and construction of lower-cost coastal accommodations, including campgrounds, cabins, hostels, hotels, and similar facilities. Proposition 68 funding prioritizes projects that expand access for low- and middle-income Californians, youth, communities of color, and other underserved populations, particularly at or near the California coast. Eligible applicants include public agencies, federally recognized tribes, and qualifying 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations whose purposes align with the Conservancy’s enabling legislation. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, matching funds are not required, and awards are generally provided on a reimbursement basis for projects lasting three to four years.
