Founders’ Prize — publication support for first book in Early Modern Studies

About this program

The Sixteenth Century Society’s annual Founders’ Prize provides up to $6,000 to help early-career scholars publish their first book in early modern studies (1450–1750), covering publication-related costs such as copyediting, indexing, permissions, and open access; awards are made only after a press acceptance. Nominations (including self-nominations) open in January and the application deadline is April 1, with the winner announced at the Society’s prize ceremony and in the Sixteenth Century Journal. Applicants must be current Society members for at least one year, have defended their PhD at least two years before the deadline, hold an untenured academic appointment (including part-time, adjunct, lecturer, or tenure-track), and submit an individually authored, unpublished book-length manuscript plus abstract, a statement on how the manuscript revises the dissertation, CV, proof of degree, funding statements, and a proposed budget (up to $6,000).
