Gaede-Langmuir Award

The American Vacuum Society (AVS) administers the Gaede-Langmuir Award, a biennial prize (even-numbered years) recognizing outstanding discoveries, inventions, or significant theoretical advances in surface science, vacuum technology, and related materials and device technologies; recipients receive a cash award (amount not specified), a commemorative plaque, an honorary symposium lectureship, and travel reimbursement. Eligible nominees must have made a major contribution such as a new invention, process, discovery, discovery of a new effect/phenomenon/process, significant theoretical advance, or invention of a novel device/instrument/technique/measurement. Current AVS Board of Directors and Awards Committee members are ineligible, and nominators/supporters may endorse only one candidate per award per year; Awards Committee members may not nominate or support nominations.
