AVS, a professional society, administers the George T. Hanyo Award to recognize exceptional technical support contributions to research or development in AVS interest areas, honoring individuals who have made valuable contributions outside normal professional circles. Eligible nominees are individual contributors (not managerial or administrative personnel) who over at least ten years have provided unusual skills and creative scientific or technical support—such as experimental procedures, data/statistical analysis, IT advances, or equipment design—that significantly influenced a major research or development program relevant to AVS. Current members of the AVS Board of Directors and the Awards Committee are ineligible, and an individual may provide a nominating or supporting letter for only one candidate per award each year; the Awards Committee may also consider nominees for other award categories. Recipients receive a cash award and a plaque, with travel to the presentation meeting reimbursed up to $500.
