George T. Hanyo Award — recognition for outstanding technical support of research/development in AVS areas

About this program

The American Vacuum Society (AVS) offers the George T. Hanyo Award to recognize outstanding technical support of research or development in AVS-related areas, honoring individuals who have made significant contributions outside normal professional authorship roles. Nominees must have provided unusual skills and creative scientific or technical ideas supporting at least one major research or development program that influenced AVS interests for a period of at least ten years; eligible contributions include experimental procedures, data and statistical analysis, IT advances, equipment design and construction, while managerial and administrative personnel are ineligible. Current AVS Board and Awards Committee members are not eligible, nominators may support only one candidate per award per year and Awards Committee members may not submit or support nominations; the award includes an unspecified cash prize, a plaque, and reimbursement of awardee travel to the presentation meeting up to $500.
