The Gerald J. Oppenheimer Cornerstone Award is a lifetime achievement honor administered by the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL) recognizing individuals, groups, or institutions for notable contributions that advance AAHSL's mission or significantly impact academic health sciences librarianship. The award is presented at the Board's discretion—not necessarily every year—and recipients receive a distinctive inscribed physical award. Eligible nominees include AAHSL members and non-members whose contributions demonstrate significant impact through activities such as national advocacy, knowledge development, innovative programming, or influence on information policies. Nominations are submitted via letter by the May 15 deadline each year and are reviewed by the AAHSL Board during their summer meeting, with recipients notified by June 30 and publicly announced at the annual meeting.
