Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship

Columbia University, in partnership with the New York State Psychiatric Institute and the New York State Office of Mental Health, offers a one‑year, full‑time ACGME‑accredited Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship with two tracks (Binghamton and NYC) that trains four fellows annually across inpatient, outpatient, nursing home and community settings and includes an optional clinical research track; completion leads to eligibility for subspecialty board certification. The program emphasizes leadership and dissemination of geriatric mental health expertise to underserved urban and rural areas and includes weekly didactics, supervised clinical rotations, electives (e.g., palliative care, psychotherapy), teaching duties, and research mentorship. Eligible applicants are physicians who have completed a U.S.‑accredited psychiatric residency and hold New York State medical licensure, must demonstrate commitment to geriatric mental health, and must apply via the program portal with a CV, three letters of reference (Training Director letter recommended) and a 400–800 word personal statement; applications are reviewed on a rolling basis beginning January 1 with interviews starting in March for a July 1 start.
