Gilbert P. Whitley Memorial Student Award

About this program

The Fisheries Research and Development Corporation sponsors the Gilbert P. Whitley Memorial Student Award to encourage and support high-quality student oral presentations at the Australian Society for Fish Biology (ASFB) annual conference, with junior and senior prizes of AUD $600 each. Applicants do not submit a separate application; consideration is by opt-in during conference registration at the abstract submission deadline. Junior eligibility covers work completed as part of a B.Sc., Honours, or M.Sc. (other equivalents may be considered), while the senior category covers M.Sc. or Ph.D. work presented during or within one year of degree completion, generally completed within seven years of the first degree; projects should be at least half complete and any external contributions must be declared. A balanced panel appointed by the ASFB Executive Committee judges entries on originality and the quality of research and presentation.
