Giles F. Filley Memorial Award for Excellence in Respiratory Physiology and Medicine

About this program

The American Physiological Society offers the Giles F. Filley Memorial Award to recognize outstanding promise in respiratory physiology and medicine; the award includes a $10,000 honorarium designated for the awardee’s research program, reimbursement of early registration and complimentary early registration to the American Physiology Summit, and a certificate, with presentation at the APS Awards Meeting (awardee must attend the Summit). Preference is given to individuals affiliated with the University of Colorado; the award is contingent upon funding and cannot be deferred. Applicants must be APS members for at least two consecutive years, be working in the United States, and hold an academic rank no higher than assistant professor or equivalent. Applications are submitted online and must include a description of current and future research with justification, an NIH-style biosketch, a list of current and pending support, a letter of support from a department chair/administrator/mentor, and additional letters addressing the research program’s impact on respiration and medicine.
