GLC Fellowships

About this program

The Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University invites applications for 2026–2027 residential fellowships supporting research on slavery, resistance, abolition, and their legacies, with preference for projects using Yale special collections or New England research archives. Awards include several one‑month fellowships ($5,500, available Sep 2026–May 2027) and two four‑month fellowships ($25,000 plus benefits, library privileges, and office space for fall and spring terms); fellows are expected to be in residence and participate in GLC and Yale intellectual life. Applicants must have the Ph.D. prior to appointment and apply via Interfolio with a cover letter, CV, two recommendation letters, and a 3–5 page research statement describing archives/resources and a proposed schedule; applications complete by March 5, 2026 receive highest priority. Fellows must acknowledge GLC/MacMillan Center support in resulting publications, give one recorded online public presentation during the residency, and comply with Yale campus guidelines.
