About this program
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) provides grants to municipalities for eligible closure costs associated with municipal solid waste landfills. Funding supports closure projects for inactive landfills or facilities expected to become inactive within 18 months of application, with eligible costs incurred after April 1, 1993. Applicants must be municipalities that own the qualifying landfill and meet the requirements of 6 NYCRR Subpart 369-6. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis, with materials available from NYSDEC’s Bureau of Solid Waste Management.
