About this program
The National Academy of Medicine, supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, awards the Gustav O. Lienhard Award to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to improving health care services in the United States; the prize includes a medal and $40,000. A NAM-appointed selection committee evaluates nominees primarily on achievement in personal health services (clinical and/or leadership), innovative or pioneering work, and demonstrable national-level impact.
