Human Biology Association Book Award

About this program

The Human Biology Association offers the biennial HBA Book Award to recognize books that make significant contributions to understanding human biology—advancing theory, approaches, methods, or the teaching and practice of the field—and presents recipients with a plaque, a travel stipend ($1,000 domestic / $1,500 international), an awards-luncheon invitation, and a one-year HBA membership for non-members. Eligible books must have been published within seven years of nomination; single- or multi-authored volumes, edited collections, and textbooks are acceptable, and new editions qualify only if they include substantial revisions; authors need not be HBA members. Nominations must be made by an HBA Fellow and submitted to the Publications Committee Chair with a letter describing the book’s contributions (and may include reviews); the Committee requests copies from publishers as needed and selects the winner by January 15. Calls for nominations are issued in odd years, nominations are due by June 25 in the competition cycle, and the award is presented at the HBA spring meeting in even years.
