Human Rights Defender Travel Award (SfAA)

About this program

The Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA), supported by a donation from Michael Cavendish, offers the Human Rights Defender Travel Award—a single $750 award to help a student attend the SfAA Annual Meeting. Eligible applicants are students enrolled during part of the current year who have an accepted paper or poster abstract for the Annual Meeting and are registered to attend. Applicants must submit a short essay (up to 500 words) describing their interest in human rights and its connection to their applied research, which may include prior or current human rights advocacy; submissions are uploaded via the SfAA site as DOC, DOCX, or PDF. A committee appointed by the SfAA President evaluates applications based on the essay, the abstract’s relevance to human rights, prior human rights involvement, and the linkage between human rights and applied social sciences; applications are due December 20 with results announced in January.
