The Illinois Physician Workforce (UPW) Loan Repayment Program, sponsored by the Illinois Center for Rural Health, offers loan repayment assistance to physicians practicing in designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) within Illinois. Physicians who are U.S. citizens and licensed to practice medicine in Illinois can apply for up to $50,000 in loan repayment in exchange for a minimum of 2 years of full-time service at an approved nonprofit healthcare facility in an HPSA. Applicants must be general internists, family practice physicians, or other specified medical specialties, and they must agree to see all patients regardless of their ability to pay.
