India - Fulbright-Nehru Open Study/Research Award

About this program

The U.S.-India Educational Foundation, the Fulbright Commission in India, offers approximately 60 nine-month Fulbright-Nehru Student Research Awards for U.S. students to conduct individually designed study or research projects in India during 2027–2028. Projects may address any academic or professional field, with particular encouragement for work related to strategic priorities such as critical minerals, energy and defense security, science and technology, space, and innovation; benefits include a stipend, international travel, health coverage, mental health support, and housing assistance. Applicants must be U.S. students able to undertake an independent project, participate in required virtual pre-departure orientation, and, where applicable, attend an in-person orientation in Delhi. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to engaging with the Indian host-country community.
