About this program

The Center for Political Studies (CPS) at the Institute for Social Research, University of Michigan, offers the Philip Converse and Warren Miller Fellowship to support graduate student research collaborations in American political behavior, public opinion, voting behavior, and representation, providing awards of up to $6,000 for projects conducted May 1–August 31, 2026 (projects must be completed by August 31, 2026). Eligible applicants are graduate students at U‑M studying American political behavior who are working with CPS research faculty; preference is given to full student–faculty collaborations and to students working with junior faculty; internal submission deadline is February 9, 2026. Applications must include a CV and a two‑page single‑spaced project narrative with header information (title, dates, student and ISR faculty contact info), a description of the project and the student’s role, and a simple budget by broad categories, plus brief 3–5 sentence cover‑sheet answers on project goal, activities, timeline, expected outcomes, and budget; the named faculty member will receive the application and may be asked for a reference, and recipients must submit a 2–3 page report after project completion.
