Inge Lehmann Medal (AGU)

About this program

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) awards the annual Inge Lehmann Medal to a senior scientist for outstanding contributions to understanding the structure, composition, and dynamics of the Earth’s mantle and core. The honor includes an engraved medal, recognition at AGU’s annual meeting, induction into the AGU College of Fellows (subject to membership conditions), and two tickets to the Honors Reception. Eligible nominees are experienced, established leaders working in fields such as geomagnetism, paleomagnetism/electromagnetism, mineral and rock physics, seismology, deep‑interior studies, or tectonophysics; nominations may be submitted by peers or self-nominated but nominators must be active AGU members, and all parties must comply with AGU’s conflict of interest and professional conduct policies (submission window listed as 5 January–2 March).
