Inge Lehmann Medal (AGU)

About this program

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) annually awards the Inge Lehmann Medal to a senior scientist for outstanding contributions to understanding the structure, composition, and dynamics of the Earth's mantle and core, encompassing disciplines such as geomagnetism, paleomagnetism, mineral and rock physics, seismology, deep‑interior studies, and tectonophysics. The award includes an engraved medal, recognition at AGU’s annual meeting, two tickets to the Honors Reception, and induction into the AGU College of Fellows subject to membership conditions. Nominees should be experienced senior scientists and established leaders in the relevant fields; nominations may be submitted by peers or via self‑nomination, but nominators must be active AGU members.
