About this program

The Economic History Society offers the Initiatives & Conference Fund to provide small grants for otherwise unfunded workshops, special meetings and other initiatives in economic and social history, with priority for activities that broaden participation, support innovative research, involve researchers outside full-time university posts, or lead to publication and conference sessions. Awards are up to £5,000 (or up to £1,000 for one-day workshops) and applicants are encouraged to propose papers or sessions for the Society’s annual conference. Applicants must be members of the Economic History Society; the online form is accessible only when logged in and applications are considered on 1 May and 1 November (outcomes usually within 6–8 weeks). Grants will not cover the applicant’s conference attendance, equipment, publication or subsistence costs, or room hire at the applicant’s home institution; surplus event income is deducted and all-supported events must be open to economic and social historians, advertised on the Society’s website, and acknowledge its support.
