About this program

Frontiers Clinical & Translational Science Institute’s Institute for Advancing Medical Innovation (IAMI) Trailblazer Award provides pilot grant funding and programmatic support to advance early-stage clinical and translational development of novel drugs, devices, diagnostics and related entrepreneurship activities with the goal of generating publishable results, successful extramural proposals, and products for a development pipeline. Funded areas include experimental therapeutics and clinical pharmacology, preclinical drug and device development, biomarker discovery/validation, and preparation of investment/regulatory plans and prototypes. Eligible applicants are Frontiers CTSI members who are faculty employed by a Frontiers partner institution (e.g., Children’s Mercy Kansas City, Kansas State University, Saint Luke’s/BJC Health West Region, University of Kansas and campuses, The University of Kansas Health System, University of Missouri–Kansas City), must be eligible to receive federal funding, and may serve as PI on only one awarded Trailblazer Award per year (while being allowed to collaborate on other applications).
