International Exploration Grants

About this program

The National Speleological Society’s International Exploration Grants support international caving expeditions through funding for group expenses and equipment, including ropes, survey and search-and-rescue gear, permits, guides, transportation, and meals. Grants are awarded twice annually on June 15 and December 20, with applications accepted April 30–May 31 and October 30–November 30; one annual award may be designated the Ron Simmons Grant. Applicants must submit a complete application for an expedition whose results will be shared with the caving community and provide a post-expedition summary with photos, preferably accompanied by an NSS News article or convention presentation. Personal airfare and caving gear, overhead, conference travel, legal expenses, and single-use equipment over $400 are not eligible.
