Irving Lowens Article Award

The Society for American Music offers the annual Irving Lowens Article Award to recognize an article that makes an outstanding contribution to the study of music of the United States and its intersections with musical cultures beyond U.S. boundaries; the prize includes a plaque and an unspecified cash award. Eligible articles are those published in the prior calendar year (as shown by the official copyright date on the back of the title page) in peer‑reviewed journals or edited collections; nominations may be submitted by authors or other nominators, and the committee particularly welcomes articles from edited collections, while non‑English articles must be accompanied by an English translation. Application requires submission of a PDF of the article via the Society’s online submission link, with annual consideration and a deadline listed as June 1.
