Irving Lowens Book Award

The Society for American Music awards the annual Irving Lowens Book Award to the book judged the best in the field of American music; the prize includes a monetary award and a citation presented at the Society’s annual national conference (specific dollar amount not stated). Eligible books are those published with a 2024 imprint on any subject relating to "American music," broadly defined to encompass all musics of the Americas across historical and contemporary, art and popular, ethnic/minority, immigrant, community, and transnational contexts. Books must be received by June 1 to be considered.
