The Paleontological Research Institution offers the annual J. Thomas Dutro, Jr. Student Award in Systematic Paleontology, a one-time $500 award to support graduate research in systematic paleontology (acceptable costs include research supplies, bench fees, and travel for fieldwork, museum visits, or meeting presentations). Eligible applicants are Master's or Ph.D. students; submissions require a concise project description (two-page maximum) with a simple budget, references, and any images, and studies of living taxa must explicitly connect to deep time and evolutionary history. The student's primary research advisor must send a separate letter of recommendation; applications are due April 30 each year, and awardees must provide a progress report within one year.
