Jacob P. Waletzky Award

About this program

The Society for Neuroscience offers the Jacob P. Waletzky Award to recognize a mid-career basic or clinical scientist whose independent research has made significant conceptual and empirical contributions to understanding drug addiction. The recipient receives a $30,000 prize, complimentary registration, travel, and two hotel nights for the SfN annual meeting, where the award is presented during a lecture. Nominees must be actively conducting research, hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent awarded within the past 15 years, and demonstrate plans for continued contributions to addiction research and treatment; career interruptions may be considered. Nominations, due May 14, 2026, must be made or endorsed by an SfN member, cannot be self-submitted, and must include a nomination letter, CV, five key publications, a 500-word future research essay, and up to two recommendation letters.
